This project was for Santa Fe College’s Digital Media Technology Student Exhibition and Portfolio Review 2020. We were given a the word vast on which to base our design.

ideation

After researching myriad ways the word vast could be interpreted I decided on a very simple concept. I had an idea of a small light in the vastness of the dark. I created a small stylized sphere of light and placed it in the upper corner of the poster bleeding off the page so that its rays pierce the vastness of the darkness that is the rest of the poster.

The style of art I chose was simple dot art, usually seen as white dot patterns on black. I added a very subtle amorphous blue hue to the near-black blue background to add an element of dimension. I chose Dunbar Tall as the typeface because I wanted the typeface to be light and airy to complement the vastness effect.
